Dressmaker of the Year 2018: Time to get stitchy

After the huge buzz of Dressmaker of the Year 2017, Make it Today magazine is launching next year’s competition! Here at Simplicity, we’re so excited to be sponsoring, with our very own category this time round.

Last year there were over 1200 fabulous entries, and this year we can expect even more, with six categories up for grabs;

  • Simplicity
  • Everyday
  • Occasion
  • Upcycling
  • Vintage
  • Children’s wear

It couldn’t be easier to enter - simply submit up to five photos of your garment, which must be taken against a plain white background. We recommend modelling the garment, and finding good lighting! Read Sew Magazine’s full list of tips here.

Portia Lawrie, last year’s Dressmaker of the Year winner, will be amongst the star judging panel along with Vicky Gill, Strictly head costume designer, and Stuart Hillard, Great British Sewing Bee personality.

There are also some amazing prizes up for grabs – the overall winner will receive a Janome atelier 5 sewing machine, an Adjustoform mannequin and more, with prizes for category winners, and two free Simplicity patterns for every entrant.

And the best part? You can enter as many times as you like. Here are just two of the fabulous entries so far from Simona and Melanie.
